Minnesota: A History
of the Land - Lessons in Sustainability
 The
Sustainability Initiative also supports a teacher outreach training project
connected with a University of Minnesota/Twin Cities Public Television
co-production entitled Minnesota:
A History of the Land. The producers of this program used the 4-part
series to develop a curriculum that demonstrates how ecosystems and socio-economic
systems have been deeply interconnected throughout our state's history.
In three one-day workshops in the summer of 2005, stories illustrating
how Minnesotans have interacted with their environment for the past 200
years were incorporated into lesson plans designed to help students understand
the important role they each play as stewards of the health and sustainability
of Minnesota's natural environment. The workshops were over-subscribed
by interested teachers, very highly evaluated by participants, and very
successful overall. There will be two additional day-long workshops in
June of 2006, and a total of 10 more workshops in July and November of
2006 and 2007.
